NuWINc the graphical windows client for NuFW

NuWINc is a multiuser graphical client for NuFW developed for Microsoft Windows. It allows for a complete and elegant integration to your Windows environments, leading up to Single Sign On. The NuFW client for Windows platforms

The NuFW authenticating firewall has been designed and developed by INL, who makes a Microsoft Windows client version available.

INL has developed NuWInc : this software allows for users running on Microsoft Windows to authenticate against an EdenWall (NuFW) firewall. NuFW is an authenticating firewall that lets administrators set network filtering rules per user and not only per IP address.

Two versions of NuWINc are available : a fully transparent version for users of Microsoft domains, and a classical version, letting users authenticate to their gateway even if not connected on a domain.

Microsoft domain integration : transparent NuWINc

This version of NuWINc allows for a 100% transparent integration of the NuFW authentication to your domain: users need enter their credentials only once, at the usual domain authentication step. NuWINc runs in the background and performs the authentication tasks in a totally transparent way.

NuWINc runs on background, and authenticates IP packets sent by the identified user, when the firewall asks for it. This allows for each IP packet to be associated the user who sent it.

This NuWINc version works on Windows multiuser versions (such as Terminal Server, or Citrix) : several users can send data simulateously to the network : each user is attributed his/her own permissions, regardless of others.

In a similar way, if a user logs on on a collegue’s workstation, his access rights to the network are applied dynamically.

Supported Microsoft Windows versions : NT/2000/XP/2003/[Beta Vista]
This way, your users get authenticated in a transparent way, and can benefit from simple, efficient and secure Single Sign On.

Roadrunner or out-of-domain classical version

The classical version of NuWINc brings the same functionnalities as the transparent version. What differs is the domain integration, which is not available in this version. Once the user is logged on his/her workstation, he/she needs to launch the NuWINc application, and to enter his/her credentials.

User enters credentials as usual

NuWINc then gets very discrete by integrating to the systray. Systray Integration (PNG)

systray Integration
Once the user is authenticated on the firewall, let them work normally on their workstation : their IP packets get authenticated by NuWINc on the fly, without them needing to bother about it.

The classical version offers the same advantages as the transparent version:
- Single Sign On extensions.
- Network flows per user filtering, not per IP
- Per application filtering, for instance : Mr Smith can browse on the Internet only if he uses Internet Explorer v6.

As an option, an integrated agent is available. It supports both NuWinC features, and SSL flow encryption, for authentication of mobile users.

This NuWINc version is available as an evaluation version. The evaluation version is distributed with the following limits

The full version provides these additional features :

Client for NuFW 2.0 :

For technical reasons, the demonstration version can misbehave on Windows 2000 with some security patches applied. The full version works with all versions.

With evaluation version, you will not be able to authenticate UDP packets like DNS, but you will be able to authenticate any TCP packets (like HTTP on port 80). By the way, the evaluation version does not feature OS/Application announcements.

Integration Version

INL also distributes libnuclient, the NuFW authentication library for Windows, so that editors can integrate NuFW to other applications or other operating systems.
